Whitepapers

SNOCAP started developing its technology in 2002, building the first open registry for digital content.  Since then, we’ve been building new ways for all kinds of rightsholders to register their content and make it available to retailers and directly to consumers.  These whitepapers describe some of the technologies underlying the SNOCAP Digital Registry and the tools and services we provide to access it.

  • The SNOCAP Rights Management Service—The SNOCAP Rights Management Service (RMS) allows any individual or organization to register digital content they own, establish terms of use for that content, and make that content available to third parties who wish to distribute it according to those terms. The RMS provides the basis for all other services offered by SNOCAP, including services where SNOCAP enables content owners to sell directly to consumers. This paper describes the capabilities, controls, and infrastructure associated with the SNOCAP RMS.
  • SNOCAP MyStore—SNOCAP MyStore is a system allowing artists and organizations who own rights to digital content to create interactive storefronts that can be embedded into web pages. These storefronts not only let consumers preview, purchase and download digital music, they can be easily copied by the consumer to other web pages. Additionally, all user interactions necessary to fulfill commerce transactions are conducted directly in the storefront—the consumer is not redirected to another web page. This document provides an overview of the SNOCAP MyStore product, the capabilities it provides artists and consumers, and the components that make up the system.
  • SNOCAP Opt-Tunz—SNOCAP Opt-Tunz monitors and enables varying business models between content rights holders (“Rights Holders”) and content distributors (“Distributors”). Opt-Tunz identifies music and provides information about how that content can be used by Distributors. When Rights Holders participate in the business model facilitated by Opt-Tunz, they generate revenue from the Distributor based on the amount of their content that is consumed.
  • SNOCAP Linx—This document describes SNOCAP Linx, a Web music solution for retailers. The data feeds and interfaces provided by this service, along with the ways in which it can be used to add digital music e-commerce capabilities to online systems, are discussed.
